Tim rubbed his eyes, tiredly as he walked out of his bedroom, and into cardboard boxes.

“Ow,” Tim cried out in pain as his foot hit one of the boxes and frowned as he saw the stack of boxes in his living room, before remembering that he was moving out today.

Lifting his foot up and rubbing it, Tim leaned against the doorway and looked around the apartment. He was sad to leave the apartment after living here for almost five years. But the apartment got too small for his stuff so it was time for Tim to move.

Dropping his foot to the floor, Tim walked around the stack of boxes to the kitchen, and after making some toast and coffee, he sat down at the small wobbly table and was about to take a bite when there was a knock on the door.

Tim groaned as he got up, and made his way over when there was another knock, a loud one this time.

“Hang on,” Tim called out. “I’m coming!”

But it seemed that the person behind the door was excited because they still kept knocking on the door, and Tim shook his head. It could be only one person and he smiled.

As the door was opened, a couple of arms were flung around Tim’s neck and there was screaming in his ears, and Tim winced.

“Abby,” Tim struggled to pull her away. “Abby, you are hugging me tightly!”

Abby let go and grinned at him. “Are you excited?” then she looked behind Tim and saw the boxes. “Wow, there are a lot of them! Are we taking all of them?” Abby asked as she walked over to the table and saw the toast and coffee.

“Oh, is this for me?” Abby asked as she sat down at the table.

Tim was about to call out to stop her but it was too late. Abby had already picked the toast up and taken a bite.

Sighing heavily, Tim walked back to the kitchen and made toast again, while telling Abby about the boxes.

“No, we are not taking all of them,” Tim said. “If you see the boxes near the door which has ‘For the school’ written them.”

Abby jumped up, and went over to look inside these boxes and exclaimed in surprise as she saw what were inside these boxes and swung around to stare at Tim, wide-eyed.

“Are you sure you want to throw these out?” Abby asked, quietly.

Tim sighed; he knew that Abby would notice the importance of the stuff in these boxes but he didn’t need them, now that he was moving out of the apartment into a townhouse near work. Tim also knew that he could afford to buy some more so he didn’t worry too much about it.

“I don’t need them anymore, Abby,” Tim told his best friend. “They are very new and now that I have the money left over from the books I wrote, I can afford to get the old editions.” Tim walked over to Abby, and looked at the books sadly. “You knew I was always planning to get the old ones.”

Abby nodded, a flash of recognition on her face as she remembered Tim’s desire to get the old ones for a long time and smiled at him. “Then I’m glad you are getting rid of them. The children at the school will love them!”

Tim smiled, relived that Abby was happy with his plans.

* * * *

The school where they were going was having a drive where people dropped things they didn’t need anymore off. Then the school would decide which one to keep for the school and which one to sell at the yard sale next weekend.

Tim was glad that the books were going to a good cause. He knew from what Abby told him about the school library that they were always in need of more books.

They were driving down the road, in Abby’s hearse, past the fields to the school, when Tim saw someone he recognized out on the fields, with the children and gasped in shock.

Abby turned around suddenly and asked what was wrong. Tim simply pointed out to the fields and Abby followed the directions and beamed happily.

“Oh, Tony is here! I wasn’t sure if he was going to be here because he told me that he was thinking of going to see his old buddies from college this weekend, but it looks like he changed his mind.”

Tim stared at Abby, open-mouthed, as Abby drove to the front, happily, leaving Tony and the fields behind.

“You…you knew he was going to be here?” Tim spluttered. “I mean, what is he doing here?”

“Oh, Tony helps out with the little kids’ baseball team sometimes,” Abby shrugged like it was normal for Tony to turn up here at the school.

But Tim just stared at Abby, shell-shocked. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

Tony, helping out? It wasn’t like…well yes it was so like him, Tim suddenly smiled and turned back to see a tiny Tony throwing a ball out to a kid in the distance.

Tim never believed Tony’s exaggerated stories about what he got up to on weekends they got off work. He was suspicious that Tony was hiding behind a mask at work, almost like him. He preferred to keep his professional and personal lives separate too but he didn’t make these stories up like Tony did.

It wasn’t until that Tony was pretending to be ‘Clare’ a couple of years ago and after chatting to ‘her’, Tim realized that he was actually seeing the true Tony and he liked this Tony better than the Tony at work. He learnt a lot of things about Tony when he was acting as ‘Clare’. Like that Tony liked to stay in and watch DVDs instead of going out to movies like he told them or that Tony liked to get away for a weekend into the countryside. Or that Tony liked to volunteer for charities and things like that.

Tim was also surprised when he found out that Tony liked to read.

Of course, Tim wasn’t about to confront Tony with these little facts, knowing that Tony would deny them so he kept quiet and started to keep a closer eye on Tony.

Somehow, over the years, Tim got close to his team; especially Tony but unfortunately for Tim, keeping a closer eye on Tony has made him fall in love with him.

Still, Tim didn’t feel the need to tell the rest of the team that he was moving out of the apartment into a townhouse.

It was natural that he told Abby about the move because they became best friends after sleeping together. Tim never understood quite how their friendship developed after that and had felt bad that being with Abby had made him realize he was gay. But Abby was supportive and was quite happy to accompany him to family gatherings, pretending to be his girlfriend for a while. Abby was also there when Tim finally came out to his parents a year ago.

There were times that Tim wished he never told Abby about the move because she kept pestering him to tell the rest of the team.

Now Tony was here at the school. Knowing Abby, she would want to go over to the fields once they had dropped the boxes off. Then Tony would know about him moving out and Tim knew that Tony would be hurt by it. He wouldn’t show it, of course but yeah, Tim not telling him would hurt him.

Tim sighed heavily as the hearse arrived at the doors, and got out then walked around the back with Abby opening the doors.

Together, they took the boxes out and went into the school.

* * * *

Tim and Abby were in the gym, helping sorting the stuff out, when Tim heard Abby shriek and turned around to see Abby’s arms around Tony’s neck.

“Tony!” Abby screamed, happily. “You didn’t tell me you were going to be here!”

Tony spluttered as he struggled to answer Abby. “Hugging tightly, Abs,” Abby let go and grinned at Tony as Tim looked at him, suddenly feeling nervous.

“You never told me you were going to be here, and with McGeek,” Tony looked at Abby, then to Tim.

“Uh..um…” Tim flushed as he fidgeted with his thumbs; unsure what to say then opened his mouth to reply just as Abby answered Tony’s enquires.

“Tim is donating some of his things to the school. Come and see!”

Tony raised an eyebrow at Tim, “Giving your stuff away, McHoarder? I thought you liked to keep everything?”

“Uh..well…I…Abby told me about the school needing some books so I thought I would give some of my books to them,” Tim replied, not wanting Tony to know the real reason.

“Not Deep Six, I hope?” Tony asked and Tim chuckled as he shook his head.

“No, it’s just a few Sherlock Holmes books.”

Tony looked surprised. “You finally replaced these ones with the older editions you’ve been wanting to buy?”

Tim was confused by what Tony said because he didn’t think he had told Tony about his passion with the Sherlock Holmes books, then realized that he has told ‘Clare’ and smiled.

“You remembered!” Tim exclaimed.

Tony frowned and the realization dawned on him that he has slipped and mentioned something he found out as ‘Clare’ and blushed. “Uh, yeah…anyway, so why are you giving them away?”

Tim was about to answer when Abby interrupted excitedly, “Tim is moving out so he needs some space!”

Tony looked like he was taken aback and stared at Tim. “You never said...when are you moving out?”

“Tomorrow,” Tim said, quietly as he noticed the hurt look appearing on Tony’s face before it disappeared. ‘Damn Abby’ he silently thought to himself as he said, out aloud, “actually, the real reason that I’m giving the books away because they are new and I wanted to get the old editions of the Holmes series.

Tony nodded slowly in understanding. “Where are you moving to?”

“Near the Yard…into a townhouse,” Tim replied just as Abby called out to them that she was going to see some of the teachers, leaving them alone.

Tim sighed as he watched Tony nod. He felt guilty for not telling Tony but it was too late now.

“Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but the rest of the team doesn’t know. It’s just Abby,” Tim tried to explain but Tony shook his head, waving it off.

“It’s okay, you don’t have to explain yourself, Probie,” Tony said, quietly. “I mean, if you had said, we would’ve offered to help you move.”

“I know,” Tim whispered. “Thank you.”

Tony smiled faintly as he moved to a table. “Want any help with this?”

Tim nodded as he followed Tony over to the table.

They didn’t talk as they worked on the table, putting stuff in one box or the other.

* * * *

As Tony and Tim finished packing up, Abby and a teacher came over.

“Thank you,” the teacher said to them, silently.

Tony grinned as he moved his hands. “You’re welcome. Anything to help the school out.”

Tim stared at Tony flabbergasted to find that Tony could sign and so expertly too.

“You can sign!” Tim suddenly cried out as Tony turned to him, a smile growing on his face.

“Yes,” Tony said as he signed at the same time, “I can sign. Anyway, I thought you could, too?”

Tim was about to retort when Abby put a hand on Tim’s arm and told him to sign at the same time and Tim blushed, realizing that the teacher was deaf.

“I’m sorry,” Tim struggled to sign as he talked, “I was surprised to see Tony signing.”

“I learnt ASL,” Tony explained to Tim, “when I first met Abby, then more of ASL when I started helping out with the coaching here.”

Tim tried to follow what Tony was signing, but luckily for him, Tony used his voice as he signed so Tim knew what Tony said.

“I didn’t know,” Tim was surprised.

“Yeah, well…”

The teacher made a small wave with her hand between Tony and Tim. “I wanted to say thank you to Tim for bringing these books. They will be greatly appreciated by the students.”

Tim was a bit lost as he stood there, perhaps a bit embarrassed but Tony stepped in and interpreted for him.

“Uh…yes, you’re welcome,” Tim signed back, hands trembling.

The teacher smiled and made a small nod before she turned to Abby and gave her a hug before leaving them alone.

“Well, I gotta go,” Tony smiled at Tim and Abby. “Got plans tonight!”

“Where you going?” Abby asked and Tony winked at her. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Abby slapped Tony’s arm and glared at Tony, who laughed.

“I might go out to a club and pick up a chick…” Tony nudged Tim in the ribs while grinning at him.

Tim rolled his eyes and watched Tony closely and smiled as he said to Tony, “Yeah, yeah, have fun. I’m going to go home and pack some more.”

“Oh, boring McPacking,” Tony put a hand on Tim’s shoulder. “Why don’t you come out with me?”

Tim sighed as he looked at Tony as if he was an idiot for asking. “I have to get up early tomorrow morning for the removal men and I have to do it all by myself because Abby has to go and see her parents tomorrow.”

Abby made a small shrug. “They are visiting so I’m going to their hotel to spend the day.”

Turning to Tim, Abby put her arm over Tim’s arm and squeezed it tightly. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help.”

“It’s okay,” Tim patted Abby’s arm. “You don’t see your parents much so that’s more important.”

Abby beamed as she stepped on her toes to kiss Tim on the cheek. “Thank you.”

Tim smiled as Abby let go of his arm and told him that she was going to bring the hearse around, and then left the gym.

“Thank you for your help,” Tim gestured to the table where they worked on.

“Wasn’t a problem,” Tony shrugged. “Anything to help the school.”

Tim and Tony walked out of the gym in silence and when they got out of the school, Tim saw Abby with her hearse waiting.

Tim was about to say goodbye when suddenly a thought popped up in his mind and without thinking, he said it out.

“I…you can say no, but if you came around tomorrow to help, I could get us takeaway afterwards?”

Tony raised an eyebrow, surprised. “You asking for help now?”

Tim groaned and squeezed the bridge of his nose. “I’m sorry for not telling you but…you know I like to keep personal and professional separate.”

Tony just stared at Tim for a few moments, making him nervous then Tony spoke again.

“Okay, what time?”

Tim was taken aback. He didn’t think that Tony would come but then he surprised him by saying that.

“8am?” Tim spluttered as Tony’s eyes widened at the early time.

“That early?”

Tim laughed as Tony slapped on Tim’s back. “See you then.”

Tim watched as Tony waved goodbye to Abby and then went down the steps and turned to wave at Tim and then walked around the back, probably to his car, as Tim walked down to the hearse and got in, a massive smile on his face.
