The case had been complicated before the NCIS team ever even left Washington. It involved an up and coming naval pilot first beaten then shot to death in a less than reputable area of Albany, couple that with the same naval pilot being the son of the NYS senate majority leader and the case becomes politically expedient. -- Then JAG gets involved. Turns out, the pilot was the star witness in a drug case that was due to go to trial any day. Their case had gone from hot to nuclear in the space of mere hours.
It quickly became all hands, and Gibbs had McGee sent from Norfolk to assist them with yet another case. Tony was beginning to suspect Gibbs was grooming the younger agent with an eye out for a possible permanent position in the near future.
So here they were 18 hours post mortem with no leads. They even had a semi reliable witness in a local PI who unfortunately was only able to give them a general description of the vehicle the shooter used, a large late model Escalade. The license plate had been obscured by dirt, and the windows were tinted well beyond legal limits so there were no further leads from that angle. No suspect description was able to be obtained.
The only slight lead they had was the vigilante group that had been targeting men leaving gay clubs in the area. According to their witness, the pilot had been a victim of that type of attack prior to being shot to death. It was a long shot, but if they could catch the attackers, they might be able to get a description of the shooter. The witness thought they had a better angle, from the accounts given Tony tended to agree with him.
Somehow catching those attackers had morphed into Tony and Gibbs going undercover as a couple in some of the more popular clubs in the Albany area.
Kate had objected; she made her position abdunantly clear. McGee was a more suitable partner for Tony, as far as she was concerned, younger, and more acceptable as a possible partner.
Tony ended the discussion, in his own unique way. McGee had not been privy to Kate’s objections, both he and Gibbs were absent when Kate and Tony discussed his “date”. Tony wanted the geek kept in the dark. When McGee next entered their temporary work space Tony grabbed him, cradling his face in his hands and kissed Tim passionately. McGee froze. He didn’t know what to do, and he panicked, flailing his arms until Tony let him go.
“That’s why McGee isn’t good for this assignment Kate. If I had to slip him some tongue, he might choke on it.”
Before either McGee or Kate had a chance to object, Gibbs ambled in. Tony grabbed him in much the same manner he had McGee, this time kissing Gibbs passionately. Unlike the young agent, Gibbs didn’t fight or struggle; instead, he kissed Tony back. Gibbs ended the kiss and smirked at his team, “Did that answer your objections, Agent Todd?”
Kate had had no further objections. Hours later, Tony still couldn’t figure out how Gibbs knew that he and Kate had been arguing about who would go undercover.

As soon as he could, Tony slipped away from his colleagues. He made his way to the men’s room and entered the stall. What the fuck had he been thinking! He kissed not only McGee but Gibbs too! In front of Kate no less! He had to be out of his fucking mind! She had finally let up on the gay innuendos that she had gone on and on about ad nauseum after he kissed Pacci’s killer, and now he gives her more fodder!
Kissing Gibbs was every fantasy rolled into one, like getting his birthday and Christmas presents early! God, he wanted that man. Too bad he was straight. Good thing Gibbs hadn’t seen or felt the erection Tony sported after their kiss ended.
Now he would have to act like Gibbs’ lover, a part he wouldn’t mind fulfilling in real life. He was so fucking screwed. He just hoped he still had a job when all was said and done. Not that he would have difficulty finding a new one if he was fired; he had plenty of practice finding new positions after all, but he liked it here. He wanted to stay.
******
The club was surprisingly elegant. It was the same club the last four bashing victims had patronized, including the dead pilot. It was a jazz club with a live band and singer who had a large following. The clientele was mixed straight and gay. It was a place Tony wouldn’t mind coming back to, later, without the team watching. And without Gibbs cramping his style.
Tony could only have been dressed more sharply if he was wearing a tux. His designer suit probably cost more than his last two paychecks combined, and he looked devastatingly handsome in it.
Surprisingly enough, even Gibbs was well dressed. Tony was sure that the suit his boss was wearing was not one of his usual Sears specials.
It was disconcerting to act this part with Gibbs; it cut wayyy too close to some of his most secret fantasies. The kiss they shared earlier was something he had also fantasized about for a long time and never thought he would attain.
They had made a striking couple as they walked into the club. Gibbs was treating him as if this were a date. The older man was perfectly in character, the perfect date, solicitous, charming attentive and affectionate. He was slowly driving Tony out of his mind. They danced to several slow jazz numbers. Tony did everything he could to prevent Gibbs from being made aware of the painfully large erection he was sporting after all of the affectionate attention the older man had been paying him throughout the undercover op. Then Gibbs kissed him. He knew it was part of the op, but it was one of the sweetest, most love filled, on his part at least, kisses he had ever shared with anyone.
Then suddenly, it was over; Gibbs cell rang, and it was Abby hyped on way too much Caf-pow. She was babbling to Gibbs about a niece and plane and car reservations.
They left the club immediately. Their reason for being in Albany was gone. To them the op was concluded. Not to the people they had been attempting to draw out. Too bad for the bad guys, they actually were stupid enough to choose to attack them.
They hadn’t made it as far as the rental car before they were attacked by a group of 5 guys wielding bats and sticks. Yelling “Fag!” “Cocksucker” and other obscenities. Good thing McGee and Kate had not pulled the surveillance. Even outnumbered, Gibbs and Tony had the 5 suspects disarmed before backup arrived. The local LEOs took the suspects into custody. Gibbs disappeared, telling them to be back at work in two days time. Giving Tony plenty of time… too much time to think about what had happened between the two of them.
