Prompt: McGee has a book signing... does anyone from the team show
up? who? what happens?

Disclaimer: NCIS isn’t mine. :(
Word Count: 1,141
Summary: McGee has a book signing…and some gate crashers.

“I’m a big fan of yours, Mr. Gemcity.”

Tim smiled, adjusting the fake glasses as they slipped down his nose again. “Thanks very much. Who do I make this out to?”

“Mark please, Mr. Gemcity. Mark Melville. Uh, if you don’t mind my asking, where does your inspiration come from?”

“Oh, you know,” McGee shrugged, finishing off his signature with a flourish. “Friends. Work. Life. The world around me in general.”

Mark grinned as he took his book back, before being hustled away by security. Tim sighed as he watched them go. He’d hoped to spend more time with the fans, but of course, he also hadn’t expected the line to be out the door. He was amazed and excited and honestly, a little freaked out by all the attention the second LJ Tibbs book was getting.

He turned back to the next customer in front of him-and froze.

“Can you make this one out to Tim McGee? He’s a good friend of mine-some might say an inspiration, almost-but he just couldn’t be here tonight, Mr. Gemcity. Prior engagement, you know?”

He bit his lip, glaring up at Tony. For his part, Tony looked completely innocent, as though he really were just a concerned friend-except for the way his eyebrows waggled across his forehead.

“What are you doing here?” Tim demanded. He glanced around Tony’s midsection; the next person in line was far enough back to (hopefully) not overhear anything

“Like I said Probie,” Tony pushed his book forward. “I’m here for a signature.”

“You couldn’t have waited until work on Monday?” he hissed, opening the book.

“Well I didn’t think you’d want to sign books after this weekend. By the way, what’s up with the glasses? They supposed to make you look more authorly? Is that a word?”

“Tony…” Tim sighed, signing the inside cover with a scowl. “Can you just go please? I have actual fans who want me to sign their books.”

“Don’t underestimate me Probie,” Tony pointed a finger in his face, before turning to head off. “Remember, I’ve been a fan since before you were published.”

---

“Et tu, Michelle?”

“Don’t look at me like that,” she frowned, handing over her book. “They told me we were going bowling.”

“They?”

“Tony and Ziva.”

Tim smacked a palm to his forehead. “Ziva’s here too?”

“Everyone’s here,” she nodded. “Tony had a sign-up sheet and everything.”

He shoved the book back across the table to her. “Thanks for the warning.”

“You’re welcome,” she nodded. “By the way, you signed my book upside down.”

---

“Are you in disguise?”

“Come on, Mr. Gemcity,” Abby hissed, puling the lapels of the trench coat tighter around her face. “I don’t want to get mobbed by your adoring fans, alright? Can you imagine the pandemonium if they realized Amy was right here?”

“For the last time, you are not Amy. And besides,” Tim leaned back in his seat, taking in Abby’s outfit. The tan knee-length trench coat extended several inches past her skirt, brushing the tops of her boots. “If you were going for incognito, Abs…I think you might have failed.”

“What are you talking about? If you didn’t know it was me, you so wouldn’t have known it was me.”

Tim opened his mouth-and shut it quickly.

“I guess I can’t argue with that.”

She leaned over the table, smacking his shoulder lightly. “You know what I meant Timmy.”

“Sadly? I do,” he snapped her book shut. “Enjoy.”

She pointed a finger in his face. “Don’t get surly with me, or I’ll get back in that line and come around again.”

---

“I don’t quite get the point of this,” Ziva gazed around the packed book store as Tim scribbled in her book, writing as quickly as possible. “These people all want you to sign their books, even though you’re signing them as Gemcity, not McGee.”

“Yes, Ziva, that’s about right.”

“But Gemcity is a pseudonym,” she frowned. “So they’re paying you to put someone else’s name in your book.”

“They don’t know that.”

“So, any one of them could write Gemcity’s name in your book, and it would be just as valid as you doing it?”

“But they don’t know that,” Tim sighed as she raised an eyebrow at him. “At least, most people don’t.”

---

“Director Shepherd?”

“Agent McGee,” she smiled pleasantly. “I mean, Mr. Gemcity.”

He struggled to come up with something else to say.

“Who-who should I make it out to?”

“How about you make it out to Director Janelle Flock?” she asked, one eyebrow raised. “She is my favorite character. Though, I do take issue with the way she always seems to be making googly eyes whenever Agent Tibbs is around …”

He signed her book without another word.

---

“Save me Ducky. Please.”

“I’m afraid I’m no help,” Ducky nodded sympathetically, even as he placed his books on the table. “I must request two signatures. Mother has become dreadfully fond of your writing. Of course, she also refuses to buy paperback books. Calls them all ‘pulp trash.’ Which reminds me, I was re-reading your first volume just the other day…”

Tim buried his head in his arms.

---

“Jimmy.”

“Tim.”

They stared at each other for a moment.

“Do you have a book?” McGee sighed.

“I assumed a main character could get one for free.”

“Okay, one?” McGee started, holding up a finger. “You were not the inspiration for Pimmy Jalmer. Two-“ he held up another finger. “Pimmy is hardly a main character. He’s always making inappropriate jokes, and misinterpreting things he dreams about. I’m getting really sick and tired of how Pimmy is acting-I don’t even like Pimmy that much at the moment!”

Jimmy scowled, marching off empty-handed. The next girl in line was watching McGee with a wary look. He shook his head, trying to clear it.

“Hi,” he said, forcing himself to smile. “What’s your name?”

“Megan,” the girl muttered, clutching her book tightly against her chest.

“Okay, Megan,” Tim held out a hand for her book. “Is this for you, or is it for someone else?”

“You know,” Megan started. She took a half step forward, then looked over at the exit. “I’m not sure if I want it signed anymore. I mean, you’re really busy, and your hand’s probably cramping, so one less book to sign would probably be a good thing, right?“

She stopped talking, a blush spreading over her cheeks. Tim frowned.

“Are you alright?”

“Yeah, sure, I just, I-“

With a sigh, she moved the book-and her arms; Tim found himself staring at a homemade t-shirt proclaiming Megan to be the ‘# 1 Pimmy Fan’.

Megan set her book on the edge of the table, pushing it toward him with her fingertips.

“I’m sorry,” she muttered. “I have this thing about minor characters, and-”

“No, I’m sorry,” Tim assured her. “Very, very sorry…”

You've got some sort of funky linky thing there, instead of the story behind an lj-cut ;-)

Really good.

This was great. You did an excellent job characterizing everyone who showed up. I wonder why Gibbs didn't make it. ;)

The twist at the end was great..

THIS SO ROCKED.
Stopping by for a drive-by comment as my room is a disaster. I am sorry I didn't read earlier, but I've moved twice in the last 5 days and have done about a million things and have been on line a total of 10 minutes in these last 5 days.

FANTASTIC! BRILLIANT

Perfect McGee character... and I love all the others. And the Megan who ended it... rocked too.

Really. FANTASTIC!

Seriously, it rocked. I had totally forgotten what me prompts even were, but I am so glad you picked this! Everyone was in perfect character and it was such a riot to read!

And the moves are over.. I just need to finish organizing the room. :-)

(Facepalm) Oh, McGee. Life as a famous author with a double life is so complicated!

Great story, and great fun!

The number one thought I'm having right now? Oh poor Megan! Heh.

Great story. I love how everyone made an appearance. Madame Director? Would be a terrifying sight at a signing. You did a good job. And also, "Cover Story" was on tonight, so great timing. :)

LMAO. OMG, that was CLASSIC. I so loved it. Yes. Everyone was fantastically in character (I am seeming to notice that a LOT with the fics I'm reading here, which is AWESOME, because I rarely find great fic writers, and everyone here appears to really be just . . . awesome, lol), and I loved that you mentioned everyone. Oh, Jimmy. I love him. But yes, oh, fantastic. Loved it so much.

Awww, that last part just made me crack up. Cause I can totally see it happening, lol. Poor Tim, Tony would so do something like that. Loved it though.
