Author’s note: well, this is as close as I can get to everything you wanted. Ducky, Tony, Abby, Ziva and Jimmy are all part of the wedding and it has a happy wedding. I did add Tim’s family in there and mentioned Jackson Gibbs. Hopefully that makes up for the “they’re at the party not planning” it thing.

“My brother is a bit weird. Tim’s an overgrown boy scout who still believes in honour, justice and the American way - thought that’s not what makes him weird. He’s a nerd, a geek, and a dork who can spend hours on line playing role playing games - which in my opinion makes him weird. He can be over protective and annoying, and even a jerk to all of my boyfriends, but he’s also my hero. I look up to him, literally and figuratively.” Sarah said with a smile.
“He’s always been there for me. He chased monsters out from under my bed for me. He squashes evil spiders for me every time I ask him to. He rescued me from bullies once and no matter what he’s doing, if I need to talk, he listens to me.”
“Tim’s my brother and I’m really glad to be here today to see him marry the man he loves in front of family and friends. So here’s to you Tim, the most annoying and weirdest brother in the world. May your life be filled with happiness and may you and Jethro walk hand in hand through it knowing that you’ll always be there for each other - just as you’ve always been there for me. To Mrs. Timothy Gibbs.”
***
Ducky laughed at Tim’s reaction to being called “Mrs. Gibbs” and looked around at all the people gathered. Those from the NCIS family, those from Tim’s family, friends from all over, and, of course, Jethro the dog wearing his “ring dog” vest and collar that Abby put the poor fellow in. It was like every wedding he had ever been to and, at the same time, like no other he had been to. After all, no one was in a white dress and there were no brides maids, but there was a mother of the groom beaming with pride, two fathers of the grooms - Jackson Gibbs and Patrick McGee. There were “grooms maids”, Sarah who had stood by her brother and Abby who had stood by Jethro, and best men the “brothers of the grooms” himself and Tony. And Ziva who had been asked to say a blessing during the ceremony and now sitting with all of them at the head table. Everyone was turning to him now, so it was time. He stood.
“I am honoured to be here today for Timothy and Jethro. I had the privilege of watching them slowly fall in love and delighted in doing my best to help them along. I may have indulged in a bit of matchmaking, in a bit of tearing out my hair at their combined stubbornness, and a bit of rejoicing when they finally got together. They are two of the finest men I have ever met and I am so very glad that they have found happiness. I’m so very glad that I was there to help them along.”
“Jethro, we have been through a lot together through the years. I have watched you flounder through life, I have seen you mourn and rage and close yourself off from family and friends. I have seen you at your worst and at your best. I have seen you learn to love again and am glad you have finally learned to love wisely. Timothy is a good and decent, honourable man, worthy of all your love, of kindness and joy. When you first asked me if you should act on your feelings for him, I said “it’s about time.” For I had known, from the moment he joined your team, that he would be good for you and you would be good for him. Treat him right and you will always have happiness.”
“Timothy, good luck, you’ll need it in the coming years.”
***
“Boy will he.” Tony said as he stood. “No offence Boss, and remember your promise, no head slaps today. Just kisses. Which reminds me.” Tony grinned and hit his wine glass with a spoon, starting a chain reaction and waited for Gibbs and Tim to kiss. Grinning at the wolf whistles that resulted, mainly from Abby and Sarah’s direction.
“So, I’m supposed to give a speech as Tim’s best man and it’s traditional to go with a bit of razzing and teasing and what have you. And maybe there’ll be a bit of that, but not right away. Right away I’ll just say this.” Tony said and turned toward Tim.
“When I was growing up, I wanted a younger brother. I wished long and hard for one. He’d be cool like me, into sports and girls, I would get to tease him and show him the ropes, be there for him when he needed me, and I would do my best to protect him. I never expected him to be a computer geek, into nerdy things and boys - well, men, but sometimes you get what you need and not what you wish for. I got you, as the younger brother I never had. I teased you and tormented you. I fought with you and you fought back. We squabbled and bickered and joined forces against “the man” at times. You’re my best friend and for some insane reason you’re marrying Boss here. But that’s okay because you’re happy and he’s happy. That’s what matters.”
“You may be an elf lord firmly entrenched in today’s technology and he may be stuck in the dark ages, but somehow the two of you together fit. It’s strange and weird and amazing, just like you are. Just one thing, when you come back from your honeymoon - no details. I so do not want to know what you plan on doing and I so do not want to hear what you did. All I want to hear when you come back is that you had fun and that there was no head slapping involved. Unless that’s what you’re into.”
“To Tim, I’d offer to kiss the bride but I think the boss’d kill me if I did.”
***
Abby bounced out of her seat and over to Gibbs and Tim. Kissed Gibbs on the cheek and Tim right smack on the mouth. “Oh my god, I’m so happy for both of you and this is so cool! My two favourite men married to each other and I get to be here!”
“Hey!” Tony protested. “What about me?”
“Don’t worry, you and Ducky and Jimmy are my favourites too. By the way, where is Jimmy?” Abby asked and looked around. “Oh. You’re still trying to get the sound system working.”
“I was, but one of Tim’s cousins is working on it now. She says it’ll be ready even if she has to rewire everything.” Jimmy replied.
“Cool!” Abby said and bounced up and down. “The first dance will be amazing! I mean, Gibbs dancing? It just doesn’t happen that often. Like once a decade is how often he dances.”
“Tim’s a good dancer though. He really knows how to move his hips, which is lucky for Gibbs. I mean, really lucky. Gibbs should thank his lucky stars, Tim’s so good. And Tim, you’re lucky too. The boss man is great, but you know that, you’re marrying him after all. But I mean, he’s really great. He’s absolutely head over heals in love with you and wrapped around your finger. You have it made!”
“I’m just so glad the law finally allows you two to make things official and that NCIS didn’t get all snotty about it.” Abby said and then waived at Director Vance and his wife Jackie. “Then again, the agency is moving with the times and Vance is cool. Sort of.”
“It’s just really great that two people in love, no matter their genders, can get married now, as long as both are of age. And it’s really great you both found love. You both really needed it and you both deserve it. You two are right for each other and when you come back from your honeymoon I want as many detail as you’re willing to share.” Abby said and grinned at Tim.
Tim grinned back and mimed zipping his lips, but Abby knew he did that only so Jethro wouldn’t freak.
“So, to both of you, may you have many years of happiness together!” Abby toasted them and then grinned as they kissed and kissed and kissed.
***
Jimmy was glad for his friend Tim, though he would never quite understand what he saw in Gibbs. He could see Tim was happy and that was the only important thing in his book. That and the fact that his family was there to support him. He knew Tim had been worried about that and that he had had good cause to worry. Tim’s father WAS a chaplain in the Navy after all and the Navy was still bound by DADT, but that didn’t seem to matter to Captain McGee. All that seemed to matter to him was Tim’s happiness and Jimmy was glad. Tim deserved the best and his family seemed to be full of people a lot like him. Smart, funny, honourable, and a bit weird. Which, come to think of it, described almost everyone at NCIS too.
Almost everyone at NCIS had shown up, some of them probably for the free food and booze, but at least they had shown up. Most of them even looked really happy for Tim and Gibbs, which was good. Admittedly, if Jimmy had ever pictured what Tim’s wedding would be like - this wasn’t it. He would have pictured a Star Wars themed wedding with light sabres and costumes and geeks everywhere. Not a normal wedding, which this was. There were tasteful decorations, made by Abby and put up by him everywhere. There was food catered in and a cake made by Ziva. There were tables with centre pieces and little gifts for all the guests. There was Abby bouncing around everywhere and Gibbs looking as if he could burst with happiness at any moment. There was Tim’s mom, still trying to do the “over the top, mother of the bride” thing and Tim reigning her in.
There was Tony making kissy faces at the happy couple and getting more drunk by the minute. There were children laughing, playing and fighting. It was exactly like almost every other wedding Jimmy had ever been to and he was glad. Tim deserved this. Tim deserved having all the people important to him here, celebrating with him, happy for him, and supporting him.
After all, Tim was a good man, he deserved the best and Jimmy was glad he had been able to help in some small way to make his friend’s wedding the best it could be.
***
Ziva smiled as Tim and Gibbs “cut the cake” she had made. It had taken her a whole day to make it and ice it and decorate it. She had been honoured to make it for them, honoured to have been asked to be part of their day, and was glad for them. They made a cute couple, well more than cute. They were, as Abby said, “hot” together. It was their love for each other that made them “hot”. Well, that and the fact they were both handsome men. Their love for each other reminded her of her mother’s parents. Of how her Saba had doted on his wife, his eyes lighting up with happiness every time he saw her. Of how her Savta had gently touched him and fussed over him and nagged him. Her Saba and Savta had sixty years together before he passed. Sixty years of being together by choice, bound by love, and by friendship. That she was reminded of their love now was a good thing, for it meant that Gibbs and Tim would have a lifetime together.
Ziva watched as they carefully fed each other cake and was glad they did not push the cake into each other’s face. She’d never understand that tradition. What purpose did it serve to do that?
She smiled as Gibbs turned to Tim and kissed him again. A bone melting kiss judging from the way Tim reacted. Ziva had to fan herself for all the steam rising from between the two men. She could only hope she survived watching them dance the first dance together.
***
Captain Patrick McGee knew that his son had worried about what his reaction would be to knowing Tim was in love with, and intending to marry, a man. After all, they had never talked about it. He had never talked to Tim about having caught him kissing the O’Neill boy back when they were both thirteen. Never talked to Tim about how he had counselled some of his parishioners, letting them know that to him love was love and should be celebrated. Never told him that he disagreed with DADT in principle but would not be free to say so until it was repealed. Never told him that he hoped DADT would be repealed one day.
Pat was proud of his son. For having the courage to tell him about his love. For having the courage to marry the man he loved. For loving so well and so strongly. His Tim had always been courageous though. Going back to school with chin held high after every bullying incident. Protecting Sarah and doing his best to be “the man of the family” whenever Pat had to leave his family behind and go to serve his country. Working hard at school and in training to become an agent. In going to work every day and serving his country as an agent. His son had grown up, grown into the sort of man any father would be proud of.
Pat was even willing to admit he liked his new son-in-law. Jethro was a good man, the kind of man he could see becoming friends with and Pat knew that Jethro would treat Tim right. Having watched them carefully from the moment Tim brought Jethro home to meet the family. Having talked to Sarah who had spent more time with Tim and Jethro and had talked to Tim about the man. Having talked to Jackson a few days ago, father to father, and to Doctor Mallard. He had no doubts now, no worries. His son had chosen well. Had chosen to marry a friend he had fallen in love with. Pat couldn’t fault that, for he had done the same.
***
Mrs. “Pat” McGee, Samantha to her friends, was so happy she thought she would burst. Her son a married man! It would be only a matter of time until she talked him and Jethro into adopting a child or two. Or maybe hiring a surrogate. But grandchildren would come soon, or they would hear from her about it!
There might even be hope that Sarah would follow her brothers example and marry soon. She was getting close to that young man, Jimmy Palmer. And he was a doctor! Admittedly a coroner, or medical examiner, or whatever, but a doctor! He seemed to be a good man. Perhaps not quite good enough for her baby, but he would do. Just as Jethro would do for her son.
She was looking forward to the dance she would get to have with her son once the first dance was over. Had been pleased as punch to walk him down the aisle and give him away to Jethro. (Though she hadn’t really given Tim away. Tim was still hers and always would be and Jethro had better accept that or he would answer to her!)
Admittedly Samantha wished that Tim had let her do more for them when it came to the wedding. There had been so much she had wanted to have, like white flowers and cherry blossoms everywhere. Silver streamers and a dozen more things besides, but Tim had put his foot down and gone his own way. She’d have a second chance though, when Sarah married. A second chance to have the wedding of her dreams.
***
Jethro pulled Tim into his arms and held him close as the song began to play. Smiling as Tim snuggled close. It felt so good to have Tim in his arms, nestled in them, where it was safe. It amazed him still to have this privilege. To have finally found someone who made his heart and soul sing again. At one time he had thought his soul and heart damaged irrevocably by Kelly and Shannon’s deaths, but time healed him. Slowly and surely, but time had managed to help him heal. That and the family he had built around himself.
Tony, Ziva, Abby, Ducky, and even Jimmy had become his family. Just as Tim had become his heart - the one person who had made his life better just by being there. Jethro knew that he was a stubborn cuss, a bastard, a hard and difficult man, but Tim loved him anyway. Loved him for who he was and because of that love Jethro had become a better man. He’d never stop head slapping Dinozzo, never stop bringing Calf Pow to Abby or stop allowing himself to be wrapped around her finger, he’d never stop being himself, but that was okay because Tim happened to love every part of him.
Happiness and joy swelled inside Jethro as he swayed on the dance floor with Tim. He was content, whole for the first time in years. The man in his arms had helped him in so many ways to pick up the pieces and put them back together. The man in his arms had battered at his defences until he had no choice but to allow him into his heart and his life. The man in his arms was his husband, for a lifetime. To cherish, keep safe, to protect and be protected by, and to love.
The man in his arms was pulling him in for a kiss and he was all too happy to oblige.
***
Tim pulled Jethro in for a kiss, wanting to share the happiness he felt. Savouring the moment and storing the memory away to relive as often as possible. It felt so good to belong to him, to be his. Felt so good to be kissing him gently, doing his best to remind Jethro that he was cherished. No matter what happened, Tim was determined that Jethro would always know he was cherished, deserving of love, and lucky enough to have it. It was the least he could give to his husband. And the most. To have his husband understand that Tim thought he was the lucky one to have won his love. To have earned his trust. It was that more than anything that filled Tim with joy, for he knew how hard it was for Leroy Jethro Gibbs to truly trust someone with his heart.
Tim kissed Jethro carefully, with all his love, letting everything else fall away. Until there was only him and his husband, buoyed up by love, surrounded by joy, and held safe in each other’s arms.

Date: 2010-08-17 10:31 am (UTC)Wow. Just . . .
Seriously, thank you so very much for this wonderful, lovely, wonderful story. I truly love it. It's even better than I could have dared to hope for.
I'd love to quote my favourite bits, but that'd pretty much entail quoting the whole story *g*
I love the way we 'saw' Tim & Jethro through each person's eyes in words or thoughts and how happy they were for them both. The characterisation was spot on, picture perfect. I could hear and see them all so very, very clearly.
I sniffed through it all and had slightly blurred eyes - but in a good way. Not many happy stories do that to me, that shows how powerful this was and how much it touched me.
I did laugh at Mrs. McGee's bit - wonderful. Her and Tim's father were great, just the kind of parents I can envisage him having.
I really, really love it. It's save to my hard drive and to my LJ memories.
Thank you very much indeed for writing this for me and for making it 'for me'. It hit everything I love and enjoy - it really does feel like 'my' story.
Thank you.
