Summary: Tim and Jethro go on their first “real” date. There’s a restaurant, a table for two, and a very forward and irritating waitress who just can’t take a hint. A/N: Beta by: the most amazing Shingo_the_Pest. I am working on a second part, but unfortunately was not able to finish it in time to post with this one, but this part reads as a whole and not partial fic.

Tim glared at the waitress as she walked away with a bitter smile. He suddenly realized he had a new problem he was going to detest. When they went out some people were going to assume Jethro was his father and he was going to hate it even more when said assumer hit on one of them, especially when it was Jethro they hit on.

Jethro, being Jethro, didn’t pick up on Tim’s ire as he had responded to the waitress’s question. Tim didn’t understand how Gibbs could be such a damn good investigator and suck at figuring out what his significant other was feeling.

It wasn’t until the waitress had simpered, “Maybe after you’re done eating dinner with your son we could go out?” Then Gibbs had picked up on the fact that she was flirting and knew that Tim was probably stewing.

“He’s not my son,” Gibbs had said in a flat tone and Tim had felt his heart thump a little quicker. Well if Gibbs couldn’t be good at the obvious side of all things romantic at least he was great with the last minute saves.

But of course the waitress just couldn’t catch a hint, “Grandson?”

Tim had quickly reached under the table and grabbed Gibbs other hand and squeezed. Gibbs then shot him his patented “I’m not calming down” look and returned a steely gaze at the waitress, without the warmth that he had held a few minutes before.

“He’s my boyfriend,” Gibbs had replied and Tim had jolted for two reasons.

One, he couldn’t believe how upset Gibbs could be on the inside yet portray complete calmness on the outside. The second was that Gibbs had referred to him as his boyfriend.

Tim was not feminine in the least in his own opinion, but a part of him suddenly understood why his first serious girlfriend had disappeared in the bathroom five minutes after he’d asked her to prom, understood the excitement she must have felt. He had an urge to call Abby immediately just to say that he, Timothy McGee, was Gibbs’ boyfriend. Tim, however, made his feet stay stationary and watched as the waitress turned off the charm and retreated.

He zeroed in on Gibbs’ face and tried to get a feel for what Gibbs was thinking.

“Stop that,” Gibbs gruff voice conquered the silence after a few moments.

“Stop what?” Tim asked and cocked his head to the side in confusion. He hadn’t done anything.

“Stop trying to figure out what I’m thinking. It’s nothing important and I’d rather spend our first night out since we started this thing…,” Gibbs said before Tim cut him off.

“If you called me your boyfriend wouldn’t this be a relationship not a thing?”

Jethro looked a little surprised and looked up at Tim’s face and grinned wryly, “Yea, Tim, since we started this relationship. I’d rather spend dinner talking with one another, rather than you trying to figure out what I’m thinking.”

Tim grinned at that and couldn’t help but entwine their fingers together. He felt the rough pad of Jethro’s thumb circle around his open palm and a shot of heat rushed through him. He met Jethro’s eyes steadily and saw that his arousal was returned. Tim suddenly really wanted to leave the cheap diner, the flirty waitress, and every other stereotypical first date thing Jethro was trying to pull off and just go home and get busy.

Taking a deep breath, Tim mentally talked his libido into submission. This going out thing was important to Jethro. Tim didn’t think for one second that his lover’s entire issue with the dating thing did not center on what he thought Tim wanted.

Tim had no issue with them not being out and proud, nor did he have an issue if Jethro wanted to wave the flag or take out a billboard proclaiming them to be an item. He just knew that Jethro thought he wanted this.

All Tim cared about was that his teammates, bestfriend, and family knew and they already did. That was all that mattered to him and even though he had tried to make Jethro understand it hadn’t seemed to sink in.

“You know we could get this to go?”

Jethro’s voice broke through Tim’s train of thought.

“Hmm?” Tim murmured even as his brain processed what had been said.

“We don’t have to, I know you wanted us to eat out tonight,” he finally answered slowly.

Jethro looked startled for the second time that night and Tim started wondering if the reason he’d had so many relationship’s was because Jethro just couldn’t hear what wasn’t being said in his own personal life.

“Jethro, I love you, and no matter how often we go out will ever going to change that. I don’t need fancy wooing. Consider me wooed when you didn’t knock my teeth out for kissing you senseless up against the elevator wall,” Tim’s voice dropped an octave as he remembered the first time he’d built up the balls and acted on the strange tension that had existed between Jethro and himself for the last few years.

When Tim had first met Jethro he’d been intimidated. The feelings had crept up on Tim and when he had realized who he was lusting after he’d been almost too afraid of the consequences to act. Strangely enough it had been after another narrowing escape with their lives that Tim just couldn’t not act.

They had been alone on their ride down and when their eyes had met across the elevator space Tim didn’t even think when he reached across and slammed his hand down on the emergency stop. When the elevator had screeched to an abrupt halt he’d just thrown everything he had into pinning Jethro against the elevator wall and kissing him senseless.

At the time he’d figured if everyone else kept trying to kill them he might as well be killed doing something he really wanted to do. It had taken a whole second of their hard lip lock to realize that Jethro was kissing him back just as hungrily.

Tim was jolted back to the here and now when Jethro told the waitress to box up their dinner to go. The woman had barely stopped before rushing back to the kitchen with a grateful look on her face. Tim smiled to himself at how his brusque lover handled things.

It was not five minutes before the waitress returned with their dinner and Jethro was hauling him out the door. The smell of steak and chicken following them all the way to the car where the carton’s were placed in the backseat and Jethro was speeding at his usual break neck speed all the way home.

Tim wryly shot Jethro a glance and he grinned at the intent look his lover was wearing. There were only two things that put that look on Jethro’s face and they were as opposite as two things could be: a horrendous case where someone’s life depended on them and getting Tim home so they could make love.

“I love you,” Tim suddenly found himself saying.

Jethro just tossed a glance back at him and grunted, “Love ya too, Tim.”

Very nice, but then Tim/Gibbs is my very favorite paring. Looking forward to the next part, I assume it's when they get home?

This is really lovely.

I love this pairing and this situation was spot on. Very clear to see and hear the scene.

Excellent.

gah! :: makes incoherent noises:: this was perfect!

Ok. I loved your characterization of Gibbs in this. I loved how sweet he is here, how very much he wanted to do the whole date thing right. I love that he was kind of oblivious in the beginning but wasn't afraid to put to waitress straight once he fingered it out.

::melts a little::

I am totally in love with your Tim though. He's so strong and confident here. I love that he got mad at that the waitress instead of getting sad or hurt, and he got possessive of Gibbs. I love that he is totally comfortable with himself and with his and Gibbs' relationship and doesn't care if they're out or not, just wants what Gibbs wants. I love that he strong and confident and smart while still be totally and completely Tim. I adore that your characterization of him can be so true to the character and yet still make him be the one who made the first move and also want to call up Abby the first time Gibbs call him his boyfriend.

I adored this so much, and if you write another part I'll just be that much happier but this was lovely all on its own. Thank you so much!

poor tim. I hope the waitress learns from this to never assume. And I'm glad Tim and Gibbs rushed home together, dinner can wait for after "dessert."
