Summary: Tony and Gibbs has been married since Somalia but the team didn't know until Gibbs got shot.

Finding Out

Tony paced the floor in the waiting room, impatiently with the team as they waited for news on Gibbs, who got shot in the arm, while they were chasing one of the suspects for a Marine Corporal’s murder.

Finally a doctor appeared and Tony stopped in front of him.

The doctor asked; “Agent Tony DiNozzo?” when Tony nodded, the doctor smiled.

“Your husband will be fine…” Tony didn’t even hear a collective of gasps from behind as he listened to the doctor; “...it was only a flesh wound which was cleaned up. However, he will need to rest for a couple of days before he goes back to work, in case that the wound gets infected.”

Tony gave out a deep sigh of relief and nodded. “I will make sure of that, you can believe that.”

Tony turned around and got some strange looks from some of the team. He frowned, puzzled but shrugged as he grinned at the team.

“It looks like Boss is indestructible as always,”

None of the team smiled back at him or joined in the banter as usual.

“What’s wrong with everyone?” Tony asked, irritated.

“Gibbs is your…” Abby began to ask when Ducky put a hand up on Tony’s shoulder and squeezed it gently.

“My dear Antony, you should go and see Jethro, make sure that he is resting like he should be.”

Tony looked at Ducky and gave a slight nod, before glancing at Abby, wondering what was up with her.

He turned around and was about to leave the waiting room, when Abby suddenly yelled out, stopping Tony in his tracks.

“Why didn’t you tell us? What did the doctor mean by the Bossman being your husband?”

Tony gasped as he remembered the doctor starting with ‘Your husband’ and gave a groan. He started to turn back when Ducky stopped him and told him to go see Gibbs and that he would deal with it.

Tony gave a small shrug as he left the waiting room, with shouting from Abby, demanding an explanation but he didn’t have the time or energy to deal with this at the moment.

Walking into the room, Tony saw Gibbs sitting up, struggling to put a jacket on with his arm in a sling.

Tony shook his head.

“Jethro, you should’ve waited for me to help,” Tony exclaimed as he walked over to his husband and put a hand out when Gibbs grunted and waved it away.

“Really, Jethro?” Tony snorted and crossed his arms.

“We caught them?” Gibbs asked.

“McGee and Ziva caught them. They are at the Navy Yard, waiting to be processed,” Tony chuckled.

Gibbs gave a sharp nod and was about to stand up, when Tony pushed him down.

“You’re not going anywhere but home.”

Gibbs glared at him, but it didn’t faze Tony. He simply responded with a grin.

“Doctor’s orders!”

Gibbs growled as he continued to glare at Tony.

“Look, you were shot. I was scared when I saw you go down. I thought...please let me look after you for once…” Tony said, shakily as it hit him that Gibbs could’ve died.

Gibbs sighed softly as he pulled Tony in and kissed on the top of his head.

“I’m okay. I’m here.”

Tony breathed in the smell of Gibbs before standing up and cleared his throat.

“They found out.”

Gibbs knew who Tony meant and growled. “How?”

“The doctor came in and started telling me about you. He mentioned something about ‘your husband’. It didn’t even dawn on me that he said it until Abby started yelling at me,” Tony told him.

“It will be fine. They will calm down once they realise how much we...well you know,” Gibbs pulled Tony in again.

Tony smiled. Even after a year together they rescued Ziva in Somalia and even after they got married a few months ago when they were on down time, Gibbs still haven’t said the words, but he was fine with it because Gibbs showed it by his actions.

“If they don’t like it, well...tough,” Gibbs cupped Tony’s face with his hands.

Tony beamed and kissed Gibbs right on the mouth.

“But they are our family,” he whispered, quietly.

“I know,” Gibbs replied quietly as they held each other tightly.

There were a lot of tension between the team; you could cut the atmosphere in that room with a knife that the other agents were careful not to approach any of the team, especially Gibbs or Abby unless it was necessary.

Ziva was acting normal and was asking Tony about his weekend and such. She seemed to be not bothered by the news that Tony and Gibbs were together, let alone married.

But McGee refused to look at Tony or Gibbs unless he had to. He didn’t speak to them unless he had to. It hurt Tony.

Abby was worse. When she saw them again, she yelled at them for not telling her and that she wouldn’t forgive them for not letting her in the wedding. She didn’t even let Tony or Gibbs try to explain to her. She simply refused to hear them out. Every time Gibbs came down with a Caf-Pow, he always returned with it in his hand to the squad room.

Tony knew that it hurt Gibbs too much. Caf-Pows were a way of Gibbs telling Abby that he loved her like a daughter and Abby refusing his gestures hit Gibbs to its’ core.

Jimmy didn’t say much to them. He looked at Tony sadly every time they saw each other. They used to meet at lunch breaks or whenever they had the chance to have a break. When Gibbs was in Mexico, he went to Jimmy and asked him for help with cases. Even after Gibbs came back, Tony still went to the assistant M.E. and asked him for his perspective on some cases. He missed the friendship with Jimmy.

With Gibbs, Jimmy was behaving the same as before this happened. He often ran away from the autopsy whenever Gibbs needed to speak to Ducky alone, although the last few days, he gave Gibbs a disapproving look before he left the autopsy

Tony didn’t know what to do. He and Gibbs appreciated Ducky and Vance’s support in all this.

Vance needed to know because Tony has had to change his home address for Human Resources and of course to let them know that he was married.

Ducky knew because Gibbs went to him for advice. And they trusted the doctor.

It was 2 weeks later when Gibbs finally blew up. He got up from his desk and yelled to McGee and Ziva.

“McGee! David!”

McGee jumped, startled from his desk as Ziva stood up from her computer hastily.

Gibbs looked at McGee first then to Ziva and made a sharp nod.

“My house tonight, after work.”

“I have plans…” Gibbs raised an eyebrow at him.

“...but I can cancel them,” McGee finished, gulping hard.

Ziva simply nodded as she sat back down to return working on her computer.

Tony was confused by Gibbs’ actions and saw the chance to ask Gibbs when he went over to the elevator.

Tony got up and ran after him. As soon as they got in the elevator, Tony turned to his husband.

“What’s going on?”

“Time for us to sort this out. Vance have had enough of the tension between us and so do I,” Gibbs told him.

“You sure this is the right way to do it?” Tony asked, hesitantly.

“Only way,” Gibbs said. “We can’t carry on like this.”

Tony sighed in agreement but he was still worried.

“I am sure it will be fine,” Gibbs tried to assure him.

“How can you be sure?”

“They are family,” was all Gibbs said as the doors opened and he stepped out, leaving Tony behind, open-mouthed and shook his head.

He couldn’t believe that even after all that has happened, Gibbs still considered the team family.

Just as the doors were closing, he quickly slipped out and ran after the boss to Abby’s labs. He was aware that Abby would be the most difficult of all to convince to come to their house tonight and hoped for Gibbs’ sake that Abby would turn up.

She still wouldn’t talk to them outside of the working hours. Tony used to go with her to the monthly bowling competition with the nuns but since she found out, she has never invited him back again.

Gibbs stopped taking Caf-Pows down to the lab just a few days ago. He knew that Gibbs was distraught over this and wanted things to return to normal as it can be between them. He knew that Gibbs was hurt the most by Abby’s reaction.

Tony gulped hard as he entered the lab to see Gibbs and Abby on the opposite sides, staring at each other.

“My house tonight,” Gibbs said.

“Why should I come to your house?” Abby put her hands on the hips.

Gibbs stepped forward and got into Abby’s face, angry.

“If you want to know how, why and where, you better be at my house tonight. It will be the only time I will explain everything. If you miss this, we are over.”

Abby stared at Gibbs with wide eyes as Tony gasped. He never heard Gibbs that angry before. He knew that Gibbs was hurt and upset, yes but he didn’t realize how bad.

Tony heard Abby sniffle as she slowly nodded.

“Good,” Gibbs said as he turned around sharply and left the lab.

“I really hope you will be there tonight, if not for my sake, then for Gibbs’,” Tony told her and left quickly before Abby could formulate a response.

He knew where Gibbs would go next and took the stairs down to the Autopsy.

Tony went through the doors just as he heard his best friend Jimmy say “I will be there, Agent Gibbs.”

Jimmy and Tony built their friendship up again slowly. One day last week, Jimmy came to him and asked him why he didn’t tell him about Gibbs.

When Tony finished telling him everything, Jimmy simply hugged him and told him that he understood.

“And so will I, Jethro,” Ducky told his husband.

Tony grinned as he walked up to Gibbs from behind and put a hand on his shoulder.

“Thank you both,” he said. “We appreciate all of your support and you both will help us defuse things tonight, I hope.”

“I am sure that once Tim and Abby find out, they will understand,” Jimmy grinned at them.

“I am not sure about Abby,” Tony shrugged.

“You never know, she might surprise you,” Jimmy heaved a sigh as he nodded.

“I hope so,” Gibbs whispered sadly.

* * * *

“Well?” Abby crossed her arms across the chest and stared at Gibbs hard.

They were all at Gibbs’ house as requested.

McGee sat on the couch watching the stand off between Gibbs and Abby as Ziva stood at the arch from the hallway.

Ducky stood next to Gibbs, trying to calm Abby down.

Tony sat at the window seat, worried and concerned about what will happen tonight. He was worried that if Abby outright refused to hear Gibbs out, he might go to Mexico and Tony would either lose his family or his husband. He just hoped that he didn’t have to choose.

Jimmy haven’t arrived yet.

A knock came on the door, and he gave out a sigh of relief as he got up quickly and walked over to the door to let Jimmy in.

“Sorry I’m late, I had to get someone to look after my mother,” Jimmy explained to Tony.

“It’s okay, you’re here now.”

“About time,” Abby said harshly. She turned to Tony.

“I thought we were best friends. Why didn’t you tell us? Didn’t you trust us?”

“I wanted to tell you guys,” Tony started to explain and stopped because he wasn’t sure how to explain the rest of it.

Abby looked confused by Tony’s response.

Gibbs stepped forward and put a hand on Tony’s shoulder. “Don’t blame Tony. Blame me. I was the one who didn’t want to tell you.”

Ziva stepped fully into the living room and looked at Gibbs sadly. “Why? I thought you considered us a family.”

“We are family,” Gibbs said, quietly.

“I was never open about my sexuality because I was worried about my Dad hating me. When I got into the Marines, I had to hide my sexuality because of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. I got used to hiding my sexuality for so long that I forgot how to be myself. When I first met Tony over 10 years ago, I fell in love and didn't know what to do about it.”

“We only got together last year after we rescued Ziva in Somalia He couldn’t handle me being interrogated very well,” Tony went over to Gibbs and put his arms around his lover and stopped suddenly when he saw that Ziva went pale and heard her gasp in shock. Tony realized that Ziva might start to blame herself and hurried to assure her.

“Not your fault. We wanted to rescue and get you back into our family.”

Ziva begun to protest when Gibbs put a finger up. “Don't blame yourself, you hear me? We love you.”

Ziva gave a small smile as she gestured for Tony to continue the story.

“When we got back to D.C., I came here to be away from everything that has happened. But Gibbs decided that he had enough and kissed me,” Tony chuckled as he remembered Jethro pinning him up against the wall and kissed him furiously before hauling him upstairs to the bedroom. But of course he never told the team this part.

Gibbs continued the story, “Because I hid my sexuality for so long, I got married four times, so that I could pretend that I wasn't interested in men. Shannon was the only one who knew about my sexuality and I did love her, if not in love. When Kelly was born, I felt like my life was complete so when they died, I…” Gibbs didn't finish. There weren't any need to finish the sentence because everyone knew what happened afterwards.

“I understand, but why didn't you tell us after you both got together? You must have known that we wouldn't get mad. I mean I would have been so pleased for you both. I love you both so much,” Abby walked over to Gibbs and put her arms around him too, smiling at Tony as she did so.

“I knew in my heart, but my mind was telling me differently. I was scared that if I told you that I am gay, you might hate me. You are like a daughter to me,” Gibbs smiled at Abby.

Then he turned to Ziva and finally to McGee. “You both are also like a daughter and son to me. I didn't want to lose my family again.”

There were tears streaking down Abby’s cheeks, as Ziva was lost in her own thoughts. McGee swallowed, and cleared his throat to hide that he was too crying.

There were comfortable silence for the next few minutes as Tony let go of Gibbs to allow him and Abby some time on their own and went over to Jimmy, who grinned at him.

“I told you that things will be fine once they knew the full story.”

Behind him, Ducky gave a quiet laugh, who went to stand next to his assistant after Abby went over to Gibbs.

“You did,” Tony smiled back, as he slapped Jimmy’s back, causing him to stare at one of his best friends.

“When did you get married?” McGee suddenly asked from the couch, breaking the silence.

Tony laughed and grinned at Gibbs, who rolled his eyes. Abby got off Gibbs and jumped up and down excitedly.

“Tell us!”

“Well, it was when we were on our down time. I begged Gibbs to come with me to Las Vegas and after some promises…” Tony started telling the group the story when Abby squealed and was about to ask what did he promise when Tony put a finger up on her lips and shook his head.

“Not telling you, Gothgirl.”

Abby pouted causing the rest of the group to laugh.

“Anyway, back to the story. We got drunk - we were in Las Vegas after all - and proposed to Gibbs who agreed to marry me. We went to one of the Elvis Presley churches and got married!” Tony told the group, who stared at Gibbs, flabbergasted. They couldn't imagine Gibbs being drunk.

“Tony thought that I was drunk but actually I wasn't,” Gibbs snorted.

Tony suddenly turned to Gibbs, surprised. “I thought...you-you wanted to get married?”

Gibbs smiled softly and nodded slowly.

Abby jumped up and down for joy. “I know how you can make it up to me!”

Gibbs and Tony turned to her, worried and asked her what she meant by them making it up to her at the same time.

“Did you remember much the next day?” Abby asked Tony, who shook his head.

“Well, why don't you get married again?” Abby asked. “This time, with your family around you!”

“What do you think, Jethro?” Tony and Gibbs looked at each other.

And of course Abby squealed. “You called him Jethro! Oh how adorable.”

The rest of the group either chuckled or rolled their eyes at Abby’s antics.

“I like the idea,” Gibbs said. “But Abs, what do you mean by us making it up to you?”

“Let me plan your wedding! Everything!” Abby beamed, excitedly.

Everyone, as a group, let out a groan together.

The end...maybe?
